Introducing Vietnam’s Cultural Values to International Friends in Mexico

The vibrant and diverse cultural tapestry of Vietnam took center stage at the “Vietnam Culture Day” event, held in Mexico City from March 29-30. This colorful celebration attracted members of the diplomatic community, local authorities, international guests, and residents, all eager to immerse themselves in Vietnam’s rich heritage.

Located in the heart of the city, Abraham Lincoln Park played host to this special occasion, marking the commencement of a series of events commemorating 50 years of strong diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Mexico (May 19, 1975 – 2025). It was a true testament to the enduring friendship between our nations.

In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai emphasized the shared history of struggle for independence and nation-building that has forged a strong bond between Vietnam and Mexico over the past five decades. This relationship extends across multiple domains, including politics, economics, culture, and people-to-people diplomacy.

Additionally, Ambassador Hai highlighted the unique connection between our countries, built on a foundation of profound cultural similarities despite the geographical distance. Both Vietnam and Mexico boast ancient cultures, rich in national identity and imbued with deep spiritual values.

Maria Gonzalez, head of the Foreign Relations Department of Miguel Hidalgo, the central district of Mexico City, offered her congratulations on the event’s success. She noted that it marked an auspicious beginning to the 50th-anniversary celebrations, providing a unique window into Vietnam’s captivating culture for local authorities and residents alike.

Gonzalez also drew attention to the significance of the Vietnamese cultural space and the professional organization of the event by the Vietnamese Embassy. She believed it offered a rare opportunity to delve into the beauty, peace, and hospitality that define modern Vietnam, a nation steeped in rich traditions yet embracing progress.

The event featured captivating folk art performances by the spouses and children of officials from Vietnamese representative agencies, showcasing their talent and passion for Vietnam’s cultural heritage. The Vietnamese Embassy also presented a captivating exhibition of paintings, photographs, and video clips that transported guests to Vietnam’s breathtaking landscapes and introduced them to the country’s exquisite handicrafts, a testament to the creativity and skill of its people.

Guests were also treated to a culinary journey, sampling signature Vietnamese dishes such as spring rolls, fried spring rolls, fried rice, and refreshing salads. It was a delightful way to conclude this celebration of Vietnam’s vibrant culture and hospitality.
