2023 Ho Chi Minh City TV cycling race will span 3,000km

This year’s edition, titled ‘Land, Rivers, and Mountains Create a Strip – Hope for Victory’ is one of Vietnam’s largest cycling tourneys.

The race is set to bring together the country’s strongest teams, including Ho Chi Minh-Vinama, Loc Troi Group, Dong Thap Domesco Pharmaceuticals, Military Zone 7, Hanoi, Kenda Dong Nai, and Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastics.

The race will start at Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi on April 2, stretch to the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, and finish in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30.

Among these stages, the fourth is set to span 197.4 kilometers from Vinh City in the north-central province of Nghe An to Dong Hoi City in the north-central province of Quang Binh, making it the longest stage of the tourney.

The stages across Gia Lai and Dak Lak’s Buon Ma Thuot City in the Central Highlands region, which boasts much potential for tourism due to various stunning landscapes and unique cultural features, will become the highlight of the race.

Furthermore, the stages taking place in the peaceful and alluvium-rich Mekong Delta region are expected to bring joy and excitement to cyclists.

Prizes will be valued at up to about VND2 billion (US$84,600) in total.

The overall leader of the race, who will wear the coveted yellow jersey, will receive a VND200-million ($8,500) prize, while the cyclists winning the green and red jerseys will pocket a cash prize of VND50 million ($2,110) each.

The team claiming the champion title will get a prize of VND100 million ($4,230).

In addition, the winner of each stage will receive a prize of VND20 million ($846), while other prizes will be worth VND5 million ($211), VND3 million ($127), and VND1 million ($42.3).

The race is aimed at popularizing Vietnam’s gorgeous destinations and cultural identity among domestic and foreign tourists.

The 35th Ho Chi Minh Television Cycling Tournament, or the HTV Cup, will kick off in early April, featuring 25 stages and covering 2,964 kilometers, according to a press briefing to introduce the cycle race on Monday.
